Miranda’s recent visit from Newfoundland to spend time with her dad, stepmom, and new baby brother Reed looks like it has been a very happy one for all concerned. This smiley little firecracker is an excellent big sister and an even better photographer’s model! If all my family members could hold a pose and a smile as well as she can, allowing me to concentrate on having an infant look at the camera, life would be easy. It was a pleasure to travel to Oromocto to capture this wonderful moment for the White family.

While it may seem things have been slow in my world based on the lack of photos posted, nothing could be farther from the truth! I have been extremely busy and would like to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful, patient clients and friends for their care and support the past month or more. I am blessed!

Here are a few portraits that have been waiting for their moment of fame :o) With more to come in the next few days. So come back soon!!

Michael has been to my studio before but this was Lauren’s first visit. It was great to have them and wonderful to se mom, Michaela, again!

These pictures of 3 week old Reed have been several weeks in coming! They were posted, or so I thought. I could see them but his mom Danielle mentioned she was waiting for them. Seems they were stuck in limbo. Websites never work like you want them – especially when you’re trying to look after them yourself.

But isn’t he little? And cute as a button. What is it about newborns these days that makes them so alert and awake for long periods of time. Reed thought it was fun to stretch out, chew on his fingers and have a drink of milk. We had to be creative to keep him in a bundled up pose!

Some days I work hard to get those good shots. Some days I work REALLY hard. And some days all I have to do is point the camera, shoot and enjoy what I do!! A recent session with Aaliyah reminds me what photography is all about – fun. What a great morning. I could have shot all day. This little cutie has been waiting a long time for her opportunity to play in front of a professional camera without her little brothers tagging along. And play she did! I see a future model in the making.

Here are six photos from the session. Another six on my facebook page. I kid you not, I could post 40 more!

… I can usually tell what photograph REALLY defines the person or people in it. (Did you know I have a university degree with a major in psychology?). People fascinate me. Good or bad. And I think I read behaviour pretty well. It helps in my photography business. I often hear – “you captured who we are” – and it’s not by accident. I see it in an instant of interaction. Like these ones below. Dionne and Danielle are expecting a little boy in several weeks. He will be a very lucky boy to be on the receiving end of the tenderness that is obvious between his parents!

But of course a maternity session wouldn’t be without some standard belly bump photos!

As a professional portrait photographer it is almost a necessity to see something in a person’s features that others may not see – maybe even the subject themselves. Often what may seem almost ordinary in everyday life becomes extraordinary in print. It’s probably why I love America’s Next Top Model. In life I am constantly looking at the people around me in a different way. There are a few I think “I wish I could get them in front of a camera!”. This weekend my thoughts were answered. For several years I have looked at Laura and wondered if she knew how beautiful she was. Maybe it’s a combination of looks and the easy going demeanor she has with her hands full of spunky children. You decide:

This was a busy weekend! It must be the hint of spring in the air. Or maybe it’s that basketball season has ended and I’m home on a weekend :o) Whatever the reason it’s great to see some nice fresh, bright colors coming into the studio. And even nicer to see beautiful, little Claire – a full year since I’ve seen her last. What a difference a year makes! Take a look at these eyes!! And the wonderful pouty lips. She’s a stunning one year old. I can’t wait to see what next year brings…

I think next year I may do a couples promotion for Valentines’ Day. Kerri and Michael came to the studio with their two little boys who stayed just long enough for a couple of quick family shots. They then went off to spend some time with their aunt who graciously tagged along to allow her sister and brother-in-law the opportunity to spend some alone time to celebrate the upcoming birth of a little girl. For over an hour we relaxed, chatted, and took some wonderful maternity portraits that will be cherished for many years to come. They even dressed for the occasion! It seems to me this would make a fantastic celebration of the day. Check out other photos from this maternity session on facebook.

I envisioned those dreamy look maternity photos when planning for a session with Julie and Rob on Wednesday. Little did I know that serious is a little bit impossible with these two. How fun! This lovely couple couldn’t stop smiling. The excitement over the upcoming birth of their little boy Trysten in March is so obvious. As is their obvious joy with each other. The laughter was contagious. It was a fantastic afternoon and I look forward to following them through the next year of their lives!

Check out their photos on facebook as well as the few from the session below:

What can a husband give as a Christmas gift that is meaningful and thoughtful? Let’s be honest, as women we can sometimes expect the same amount of consideration put into a gift for us as we put into the one we buy and are often disappointed. Are our standards too high? Perhaps. But it is possible for the man in our lives to surprise us with something that requires not only thoughtfulness but effort. For example, Mike cleaned kids, packed spare outfits, got the feeding of the 2 month old out of the way, bundled and transported them to the studio to surprise his wife with portraits of the baby and a busy 4 year old. No small feat!! He even had to wait until she was safely out of town which I take it is not an everyday occurance and make a quick phone call to ask if it was possible to get a booking TODAY… again no easy feat! It seemed like Sam and Jackson knew how important this was as they were fantastic!!

I’ve been waiting until after Christmas to post some of these very cute photos but I have it on good authority that Mike was too excited to wait! I hope it was a very good surprise Michelle.
