Great question Jarrett! During a recent session I was asked this question. On the surface it may seem that what is involved is extra time, extra cost, and perhaps even some discomfort for those who do not particularly enjoy posing:) However, spending some time together before the wedding day has several advantages. For one, you get to know your photographer and she gets to know you – especially your comfort level. Working together, your photographer gains a clear understanding of your style, posing preferences, and issues that will need to be addressed (like the shutter noise makes you blink), while you have an idea of what to expect on the day where it counts most! It also gives the couple input and insight into what photos they will love on your wedding day and which poses they simply won’t try.

I’m happy we had this opportunity Dawn and Jarrett to make sure your wedding portraits will be everything you want them to be! I hope you enjoy this sneak peek!

I’m still laughing! Apparently the beautiful tutu, given as a gift, was not what Lauren wanted to wear for her very first photo session. As a matter of fact, she wasn’t entirely happy with the entire process :o) Even her very own beautiful lambs were not comforting enough to make her enjoy it. But she sure is cute! Here are a few of the photographs captured, you’ll notice there are none with a tutu. Well, I have one but I’m not sharing yet…

Newborn shoots seem to be on the rise in my little corner of the photography world! As with everything in life there are cycles, and that’s no different when it comes to the type of bookings that are more prevalent from year to year. This latest shoot comes from a referral from a recent maternity booking. Thanks Rhonda and Matt! I’m looking forward to meeting baby Kilburn for the first time soon!!

I have a variety of newborn/baby options available. Kelly and Jeremy picked an option that among other things includes a one hour session. But baby Hunter has a completely different idea of what an hour means :o) For him a 45 minute trip to the studio must be followed by some down time, a proper feeding and changing and then, of course, a nap! It’s a good thing his parents could find the humor in the situation. Nevertheless, a sleeping baby makes for great newborn pictures. And although there were a few with his beautiful eyes open, I chose these as my favorites for a sneak peek:

“A referral is the most flattering compliment a client can give”. Most of my studio sessions are a result of a kind word from someone who has enjoyed their Gallery Arseneau experience. And it’s true when I say for those who recommend my services I am extremely grateful. However, for the most part, clients have their photographs taken maybe once, sometimes twice a year. By the time I see them again I have forgotten to express my appreciation or perhaps I didn’t know they had referred my to family and friends. I’ve heard of photographers who offer an 8×10 print or credit toward future services but I wondered how that would be of value to someone who had recently purchased a session and either prints or a CD of images. I also worried if that would make it seem like I was looking for another purchase! After careful consideration I decided that the best way to reward my many wonderful clients is with cash! Here’s how it works – you will receive a referral package each time you come to the studio, receive your proofs, and purchase either a CD or prints. Each package has 5 cards with your name on them. If you happen to know of a family member, friend, or meet a stranger on the street who mentions they are looking for either a wedding or graduation photographer, hand them a card. If they book with me, you get the reward… $20 for each graduation package, and $50 for every one who pays a deposit for a wedding booking! It’s easy!!

I recently discovered a great site to create your own Wedding Website for FREE! This is a fantastic way to keep wedding guests informed of all the details of your very special day. It’s easy to use and a lot more professional looking than using a facebook group. Thought I’d share…

With the 2010 wedding season nearly upon us, the majority of wedding photography inquiries are for 2011. I had one bride comment that there aren’t many wedding photographs posted on my website. She’s right! Last season my wedding portfolio could be found on another site (now changed to this one hosted on my own domain) and a wedding blog site. Since the summer I have created this site to showcase all of my photography work. However, waiting for this summer’s weddings to expand my portfolio may not be the best choice given the amount of interest for 2011. So here are just a few of the weddings from last spring and summer. Stay tuned for more to follow.

As I looked through my work I realized that orange was the color of the season!!! I wonder what this year’s color will be?

As a professional portrait photographer it is almost a necessity to see something in a person’s features that others may not see – maybe even the subject themselves. Often what may seem almost ordinary in everyday life becomes extraordinary in print. It’s probably why I love America’s Next Top Model. In life I am constantly looking at the people around me in a different way. There are a few I think “I wish I could get them in front of a camera!”. This weekend my thoughts were answered. For several years I have looked at Laura and wondered if she knew how beautiful she was. Maybe it’s a combination of looks and the easy going demeanor she has with her hands full of spunky children. You decide:

This was a busy weekend! It must be the hint of spring in the air. Or maybe it’s that basketball season has ended and I’m home on a weekend :o) Whatever the reason it’s great to see some nice fresh, bright colors coming into the studio. And even nicer to see beautiful, little Claire – a full year since I’ve seen her last. What a difference a year makes! Take a look at these eyes!! And the wonderful pouty lips. She’s a stunning one year old. I can’t wait to see what next year brings…

There was only one thing that was not difficult about this Saturday morning engagement session near the walking bridge on the Fredericton north side – the couple! Katlyn and Chris were awesome. They were full of smiles and easy to talk to. Unfortunately it was very windy which did terrible things to long hair. And although it was 2 degrees in the sun, it felt more like minus 20 in the wind. Heavy dark clouds rolled quickly through the February skies making it extremely challenging to keep up with the fast changing lighting conditions. I certainly needed to be on my toes! With some patience, a little luck, and some skill, we managed to capture some really great shots.
